COFFEE TABLE BUILD

There aren't too many rounds and rustic coffee tables built today. Let me try to wing out one.

Last week, I did a SketchUp drawing of what I intend to do. Yesterday and the day before it, I finally found the time to put my hands around it. I cut, shaped, glued, joined them all, and breathed the proverbial life into the cold and kiln-dried timber.

What came out was a piece of furniture where, on its curvy profiles, it will soon sit hundreds upon thousands of rounds of coffee (or tea) in its lifetime. And if timbers have ears, they will eavesdrop on intimate, friendly, or otherwise conversations.

Pardon my flair for melodrama. I tend to be a softy when I feel good. Yet, on a cold, wet, and dreary Sunday morning, what better thing can you ask?

While the project looks perfect, I will call out what I need to improve if I do it again. One. I will insist on the twenty-two (22) inch diameter tabletop that I had on the plan than this smaller version. With the current 19-inch circle, the pedestal leg appears all the more massive. And two, the SCREWS! These three black dots are a pain in the b*&t. I could have it sunk deeper and fill up the holes with dowels.

That is about it. As I’ve said, what more can you ask from this gloomy weather. I hope to inspire someone out there. Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
