THE CHAIR YOU'RE SITTING ON
... back in the day, chairs were put to use only to the kings and novelties.

Today, as was then, we still make them on a design that is in accord with the sitter's status and rank. Presidents and corporate bigwigs still sit on chairs that remind everyone who is the boss in the room. But they are a vanishing breed (the chair design – not the president and his ilk). Today, folks prefer practical functions over symbolism. Hence we see the barber's chair or the dentist's or, Heavens forbid, the electric chair, among others.
Again, my humble pieces above are the Adirondack (chair – not the mountain range), folding chair, and lounging chair. They are all designed to be used for the great outdoors. As an outdoor use, they are rugged, hard-wearing, and can take a beating.
The chair in the middle, one with a hand-hold by the backrest, is a two-piece chair. This piece can be disjoined and stowed in a car trunk. On-demand, they are easy to assemble as a picnic chair – and they're trendier too.
On the one hand, is a chair with a big footprint. The weird-looking chair with tall slats for a backrest is the Adirondack. This chair is low-slung, has steep angles, and is the most comfortable. My wife described her sitting experience as the next best thing to a bed. They have a broad armrest to hold a coffee, ice-cold beer (whew), or a good pocketbook.
The final design has a more upright backrest angle than the Adirondack, yet comfy as well. Except for the slats, they are all made out of construction grade 2 x 4's timbers. They'll survive an atom bomb. What gives? They are heavy and backbreaking to move around.
Make your choice. I prefer the Adirondack. And if you have space and the cash, make it two pieces.
Nanana ...
Wiki has it that the first chairs were thrones. They must exult the sitter. Like the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, they were ornate and fastidious about making. Reading through, I am in awe of the long-drawn history of this piece of furniture that you're sitting on.
Chairs have a long history, yet in the beginning, they made it for use only to kings and novelties. Hence, on social events, back then, you have a courtyard full of nobles and royalties sitting on a raised dais with subjects and the downtrodden standing with bowed heads in respect if not utter veneration - quite a spectacle.
These chair designs below are two of the countless concept, shapes, and make of a chair that your behinds may have sat on in one's lifetime.
