My daughter, a cruise ship Pastry Chef, was on the market for a bread and pastry display rack. They needed this rack to showcase their pandesal, ensaymada, focaccia, and many more offerings than my ten little fingers can count. They will soon open an outlet – not much – just enough to get by until this menace is behind us or until the seafaring Pinoys get the go-signal.

The least expensive she could find was a 6k second-hand flimsy-built aluminum stand of questionable origin. I decided to help. The idea was to make something less expensive, simple, and presentable.

I gave her a couple of designs; one came from Pinterest, for which she approved immediately. The trouble is my supplier is still awaiting the arrival of that New Zealand Radiata pines. Pressed with a looming opening schedule, we decided to settle with ordinary marine plywood.

The whole build set me back Php 1300 plus a Plexiglass (to be installed) to cover the front and back. This project is way cheaper. On the flip side, I thought, wasn’t those that put together this aluminum thingamajigger made a killing?
